Abstract

Character education for children serves as a crucial foundation for shaping a generation characterized by good morals, discipline, and responsibility; however, its success in rural settings relies heavily on the synergy between families, schools, and religious institutions. This community service initiative aims to describe the state of children's education in Pagerukir Village, Ponorogo, and to analyze how the synergy of formal, non-formal, and religious education strengthens children's character amidst diverse patterns of family support. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach combined with the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) framework. Community assets—including teachers, parents, Quran education center (TPQ) administrators, schools, and religious leaders—were identified and integrated through tutoring and religious education activities. The participants included 40 elementary school students, 10 TPQ students, and 25 tutoring participants; six children were observed in depth, and four key informants were interviewed. Data analysis utilized the interactive model comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing (Miles & Huberman, 1994). The results indicate that while children generally demonstrate a high interest in learning, family support varies: some parents with formal education prioritize having their children assist with household chores, whereas some parents with lower levels of education encourage their children to continue their schooling. TPQ and tutoring activities were shown to reinforce traits such as discipline, religiosity, responsibility, and learning motivation through the processes of moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action. These findings confirm that character strengthening cannot proceed optimally without synergy among families, schools, and religious institutions, as reflected in the "Tri Pusat Pendidikan" (Three Centers of Education) concept.
