Abstract

Article history Submitted: 2026/08/22; Revised: 2026/08/29; Accepted: 2026/09/05 Abstract Public health in rural areas is closely tied to everyday habits, yet regular, low-cost exercise options for older residents often remain scarce. This article describes a community empowerment activity in the form of Ling Tien Kung exercise, a gentle movement-based practice that residents of Jenangan Village, Sampung, Ponorogo had already been running on their own for roughly three months before community service (KKN) students arrived. The study examines how the activity functions as grassroots health empowerment and what benefits its participants notice. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with the activity coordinator and two active participants, then analyzed with Miles and Huberman's interactive model of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Participants reported better physical fitness, steadier blood pressure, and improved sleep, alongside a noticeably stronger sense of togetherness among residents. The study concludes that self-initiated, low-cost activities such as Ling Tien Kung offer a workable and sustainable model of community-based health empowerment, and recommends that the village government provide firmer institutional support to keep the program running.
