Abstract

This study aims to describe efforts to improve the quality of religious learning through the habit of praying dhuha in congregation and reading short letters in students of SDN 4 Pohijo. The background of this study is the low awareness and discipline of students in carrying out dhuha prayers and the lack of mastery of memorizing short letters, which has an impact on the lack of optimal formation of students' religious character in school. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the research subjects totaling 147 students in grades I-VI and 10 Islamic religious education teachers and classroom teachers. Data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation techniques on the implementation of religious habituation activities that were carried out every morning before teaching and learning activities began. The results of the study showed that in the initial condition, most students were still not orderly in carrying out dhuha prayers and had not memorized short letters in their entirety and in accordance with the rules of tajweed. After the habituation activities were carried out regularly and consistently for one month, students showed a significant improvement, both in terms of the discipline of the implementation of dhuha prayers and the fluency of reading short letters. This study concluded that the habit of dhuha prayer combined with the activity of reading short letters regularly was effective in improving the quality of religious learning and fostering students' discipline, confidence, and love for worship, although the limited time and number of companions became a challenge in its implementation.
