Abstract

Abstract

This community service activity originated from field observations at Bukit Cumbri, Desa Pagerukir, which showed that although a trail-related sign already existed, no single board yet combined equipment guidance, emergency numbers, visiting hours, directions, littering prohibitions, caution appeals, and safety information at the parking post, leaving visitors potentially under-informed before hiking, including at night. The activity aimed to analyze this condition, describe the application of the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach in producing and installing the board, and examine its function as an educational and safety-support medium. Using a qualitative approach guided by ABCD principles, data were obtained through observation, documentation, and information from involved parties during 14 July–27 August 2026, with the board made and installed on 25 August 2026. One 180 × 80 cm board of wood, plywood, and zinc sheet was produced by 10 KPM students together with the Karang Taruna youth organization and installed at the parking post. The board became an initial information medium covering visiting, cleanliness, direction, and safety; hikers were observed reading it, and site managers viewed it as beneficial in preventing visitor disappointment. These findings do not yet indicate a measurable decrease in accidents, so the board is positioned as a preventive, educational medium, with sustainability directed through utilization, maintenance, and updating by local residents, managers, and Karang Taruna.
