Abstract

Character education in elementary schools is often confined to classroom instruction, leaving little room for the internalization of religious values through direct practice. This community service program addressed the low discipline and religious awareness among students of SDN 2 Jenangan, Sampung, Ponorogo, who previously had no scheduled routine for the Dhuha prayer. The program was carried out by students of Community Empowerment Program (KPM) Group 01 of INSURI Ponorogo from 19 July to 26 August 2026, in support of the school's vision to cultivate accomplished, virtuous, and faithful students. Using a habituation-based community service approach, data were collected through interviews with the Islamic education teacher in charge of the program, direct observation of the congregational Dhuha prayer, and documentation of activities. The results show that habituation — performed repeatedly, on a fixed schedule, and accompanied by teachers and KPM students — gradually strengthened students' discipline, spiritual awareness, and sense of responsibility. The daily routine consisted of congregational Dhuha prayer, recitation of Asma'ul Husna, and a closing handshake before students returned to their classrooms. Challenges encountered included students' limited sense of responsibility when assigned tasks and insufficient coordination among supervising teachers, which had previously burdened the Islamic education teacher alone; the presence of KPM students helped ease this burden by assisting in maintaining student order.
