Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the underutilization of local assets as a contextual learning resource for stimulating fine motor independence among Group B children at TK Dharma Wanita Pohijo 2, Sampung, Ponorogo. The identified partner problem was that the potential of natural materials in the school's surrounding environment had not been optimally used as a medium for stimulating children's fine motor skills and independence. This activity aimed to empower the local assets owned by the partner through a collage activity based on the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. The ABCD approach was operationalized through five stages: Discovery (identifying natural-material assets, teacher competence, children's creativity, and institutional support), Dream (formulating shared expectations with the partner), Design (designing the collage activity), Define (agreeing on the implementation plan), and Destiny (implementation, mentoring, and sustainability). The activity was carried out by a team of KPM (community service) students in collaboration with the Group B teacher as partner, targeting 25 children (13 boys and 12 girls). The results showed an improvement in children's fine motor independence, with final outcomes of 52% in the Developing as Expected category and 40% in the Very Well Developed category. The activity also contributed to increased self-confidence, responsibility, and the teacher's active participation in developing asset-based learning. Program sustainability is realized through the teacher's commitment to routinely utilize natural materials and to integrate collage activities into daily learning. Thus, the ABCD approach through collage activities proved to be a participatory, contextual, economical, and sustainable empowerment strategy for optimizing early childhood fine motor independence.
