Abstract

Mosque cleanliness is an important element in creating a comfortable worship environment while strengthening community awareness of environmental responsibility. The Friday Clean Movement at Ar Rohman Mosque, Pohijo Village, Sampung District, was conducted after the dawn prayer as a community service activity intended to strengthen residents’ concern for the cleanliness of the mosque environment. The activity employed participatory methods consisting of initial observation, coordination, mentoring, communal cleaning, environmental education, and participatory evaluation. The program involved women members of the mosque congregation in cleaning the main prayer hall, courtyard, ablution facilities, drainage channels, parking area, and surrounding environment. The results indicate that the activity contributed to increased community participation, improved cleanliness and comfort of the mosque environment, and strengthened collective awareness that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility rather than solely the responsibility of mosque administrators. The activity also reinforced cooperation and mutual assistance among congregants, mosque administrators, and the accompanying students. These findings suggest that participatory mentoring accompanied by direct involvement and practical education can support behavioral change and encourage the development of environmental cleanliness as a shared community habit. For sustainability, the activity requires continued mutual reminders among congregants, clear division of responsibilities, support for consumption needs, and ongoing education concerning environmental cleanliness.
