Nilai Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ) dalam Novel Kami (Bukan) Sarjana Kertas Karya J.S Khairen Perspektif Psikologi Sastra

This study aims to identify and describe the Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ) values represented in the novel Kami (Bukan) Sarjana Kertas by J.S. Khairen. Using a literary psychology perspective, the research explores the psychological development of the characters in responding to quarter-life crisis and spiritual challenges. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with library research as the primary method. Data consisted of narrative passages and dialogues collected through close reading and note-taking techniques and were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings identified 30 data classified into seven ESQ indicators: honesty, responsibility, discipline, visionary, fairness, caring, and cooperation. Among these, caring emerged as the most dominant indicator, whereas no data representing fairness were identified. The findings reveal that the characters' emotional maturity and spiritual awareness develop through the interaction between internal psychological potential and environmental pressures. This study contributes to literary psychology by demonstrating that integrating the Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ) provides a comprehensive framework for understanding character development and psychological resilience in contemporary Indonesian novels. The findings also highlight the relevance of ESQ values in interpreting existential challenges experienced by university students.
