Integration of Local Wisdom into Participatory Communication for Bullying Prevention in North Sumatra

Bullying is a problem in youth organizations because it is often considered part of the joke, seniority, and group adaptation process. On the other hand, Mandailing customs have local wisdom values that have the potential to be the basis for the formation of inclusive and preventive communication. This study aims to analyze the integration of local wisdom in the participatory communication model as a bullying prevention strategy in the Naposo Nauli Bulung Organization. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design in several sub-districts in Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana interactive models. The results of the study show that the values of marsihaholongan, marharoan bolon, and deliberation form a participatory communication model that encourages care, solidarity, dialogue, and collective conflict resolution. The integration of these three values results in early detection, social control, and culture-based conflict resolution mechanisms that are able to minimize the potential for bullying in the organization. This study concludes that local wisdom integrated into participatory communication can be an effective model for building safe, inclusive, and sustainable youth organizations and enrich the study of culture-based organizational communication.
