About the Journal

JOURNAL IDENTITY

Al-Adabiya: Jurnal Kebudayaan dan Keagamaan ~ Journal of Culture and Religion (P-ISSN 1907-1191|E- ISSN 2540-9204) is a peer-reviewed, international journal dedicated to the critical examination of the complex intersections between religious traditions and cultural dynamics. Published by LP2M Insuri Ponorogo, Indonesia, the journal serves as a global forum for scholars to explore how religion shapes, and is shaped by, local and global cultural contexts, with a particular (but not exclusive) interest in the Southeast Asian Islamic experience.

Journal Rationale: The Nexus of Religion, Culture, and Modernity

In an increasingly globalized world, the intersection of culture and religion remains one of the most significant drivers of social change, political identity, and human behavior. Al-Adabiya: Jurnal Kebudayaan dan Keagamaan was established not only to serve as a dialogue platform but a critical bridge between localized cultural phenomena and global theoretical frameworks.

While many journals focus strictly on theology or purely on sociological data, Al-Adabiya occupies a unique intellectual niche: the interdisciplinary analysis of "lived religion." We provide a platform for research that explores how religious doctrines are negotiated, transformed, and expressed through the lens of local culture, specifically within the diverse and complex landscape of Southeast Asia and beyond.

Why Our Research Matters Internationally

The scholarly significance of Al-Adabiya rests on three intellectual pillars:

  1. Challenging Centralized Narratives: Much of the global discourse on religion is dominated by Western-centric or Middle Eastern-centric perspectives. Al-Adabiya decentralizes this narrative by highlighting the Indonesian and Southeast Asian experience as a primary model for pluralism, moderate religious expression, and cultural synthesis. This offers invaluable comparative data for scholars in the West, Africa, and the Middle East.

  2. Bridging the "Theory-Practice" Gap: We prioritize research that moves beyond abstract philosophy to examine how faith influences actual social structures, such as education, gender dynamics, and legal systems. This empirical focus provides scholars with "on-the-ground" insights that inform broader global theories in anthropology and sociology.

  3. A Laboratory for Pluralism: As global societies struggle with religious polarization, our journal documents the historical and contemporary ways in which cultures have fostered inter-religious harmony and local wisdom. These findings offer critical lessons for international peace-building and social policy.

Our Commitment to Academic Excellence

Al-Adabiya is not merely a repository of information; it is a curated community of inquiry. To ensure our contribution to the international research field is of the highest caliber, we maintain:

  • Methodological Rigor: Every article must demonstrate a clear theoretical framework and robust evidence. We have a zero-tolerance policy for descriptive work that lacks critical argument or relies on non-scholarly sources.

  • Global Peer-Review: Our review process is conducted by an international panel of experts to ensure that the research we publish resonates with, and challenges, global scholarly standards.

  • Linguistic Clarity: We recognize that language is the vehicle of thought. While we are based in a small town in Indonesia, by enforcing high standards for English abstracts, we ensure that local insights are accessible and citable by the global academic community.
