This study aims to examine the actualization of religious moderation at a pesantren-higher education institution that adheres to Salafism. This issue is interesting to study, considering that Salafism and religious moderation are generally considered opposites. Naturally, Salafism is then accused of being anti-religious moderation. This study revealed that such accusations were not entirely valid. This study is a qualitative approach that delves into a private higher education institution in Bantul, Special Region of Yogyakarta, i.e., STIT Madani, which represents a pesantren-higher education with “an adaptive” ideology of Salafism as seen from its openness to government policies and the culture of its surrounding community. So, studying it is important to reveal the role of pesantren-college with non-mainstream ideology or Salafism. The selection of informants using the technique of purposive sampling by data collection methods includes observation, interview, and document. After that, the collected field data were transcribed into field notes and interpreted with analytical induction. The findings show that the existence and role of STIT Madani Yogyakarta, with its integrative education system, is a synergy model in implementing such responsibility. The integrative education system of that Pesantren-Higher Education is not only in terms of management but also in terms of curriculum development in line with its ideological basis of pesantren. The existence of a boarding system greatly supports the integration of the higher education institution with its pesantren and fosters the role of the Pesantren-Higher Education in strengthening religious moderation that is in line with its “ideological” choice.
